Getting fed up with Winston ....
The more i think about this, the more i feel this is showing some real bad character.. Winston has been great for us, no two ways about it The last couple of seasons, he has been probably our most consistent performer.
But his stalling over signing this new contract is frankly proper cuntish.
Maybe as west ham supporters we find it hard to believe that, there might be better options than playing for the hammers , but we have turned into a real decent side this season, and winston in a no way better than the other member of the first team , he is at a team that is on a par with his current ability.
I have a bad feeling that he wants to run down his current contract and fuck off on a free , at the end of the season.
Also hus unwillingness to sign, is a blip on an otherwise tight unit , he is no way irreplaceable , a large part of me wants him out in january, as i really think this shows a real bad character flaw in winnie.
Maybe im being to harsh on him, and this is just part of the modern game now days and he's just weighing up his options as any sensible player would , or he's mugging us right off.
Whadd ya reckon ?

Re: Getting fed up with Winston ....
Looking back at similar situations (with this type of quality / key player status), if an extension hasn't been signed by this time of the last season, the outcome will be the same. The player will leave.

Sol Campbell etc, did I read Vlaar at Villa is doing the same as Reid (Vlaar probably has good reasons to leave though). It is annoying that Reid can't just say that he may fancy a new challenge but then again he doesn't have to.

Us fans we need to be realistic and assume we've now lost him on a free. The board are probably already planning for his replacement. They must be pissed off with him and should not go mental offering some stupid wages. Because that could upset other players and ruin the good team harmony thats in place at the moment.

Time for him to shit or get off the pot Stewie !

If he really hasn't said anything in all this time about his expectations then he's a very strange dude!

Can't all be one way traffic can it!

If he wants to leave to go to one of the "big teams" I suppose I don't have a problem with that, sadly it's the way of the world

However if that IS the case I do feel he owes it to West Ham to tell us NOW

Exactly. I don't have a problem with him leaving or with wanting to play for a higher profile side but I do have a problem with the way he is going about it.

Don't think he's said anything, Devo. The offer is with him, and it's up to him if he takes it.

Personally, I don't think we should be in a situation where all and sundry are party to info about what's been offered; but that's the way of the modern world.

of course if he's bought a place in the Docklands, the next easiest team to play for after us would be Spurs

that'll go down well

Re: Getting fed up with Winston ....
Nobody would turn down if it was offered, but whats being offered is being turned down isn't it?

Reid is turning down extra from his current employer he should accept immediately!

Getting fed up with being fed up with Winston now...

I can't see him going to Arsenal.... Wenger is so up himself that a West Ham CB would not be deemed 'big' enough for him to sign.... even if he did he would not fork out for him in January when he could have him for free in June. I don't think that any of the other so called big clubs would want him.... reckon that Man utd will go for Vlaar with the Dutch connection.

The most likely destination would be Liverpool IMO.... good luck to him if he wants to go there.

FWIW I reckon he will be with us until the end of the season..... no one will pay enough in January to make it worth our while selling.

Re: Getting fed up with Winston ....
Eggy, that maybe the case too. We don't know, which is why it's not right to slag him off.
Anyone in his situation would hold out for the deal that's best for him financially, personally, professionally, or the best available combination of all 3.
(His agent, however, won't give a fuck about Winston's personal or professional ambitions and will be advising him accordingly).

How do we know it's cash that is the hold up? maybe he just wanst to play for one of the big teams?

I imagine if I was a player who went to say Italy playing for a middling size side like Fioentina I may well quite fancy the chance of going to Juve or one of the Milan sides

Re: Getting fed up with Winston ....

Well therein lies the problem when you break a wage structure, and pay some members of any squad more than others.

Before I continue, I'll say that I'm a big fan of Andy CARROLL; but if you are Winston REID, is it unreasonable to think that you might earn the same as Andy CARROLL? Based on performances over a two year period, the answer is emphatically no, it is not unreasonable to think that.

Then, from the club's perspective, if Winston REDI gets a big pay hike to at or around Andy CARROLL's wages, other squad members will feel that they are entitled to the same. Before you know it, we're miles in excess of our wage budget and in financial difficulty.

So that is where negotiations begin, to try and find somewhere in between. And that is where things are now.
No drama.

Lily Hammer 11:39 Wed Dec 10

I agree Lily. Him and his agent are playing a game, holding out as long as possible to ensure they are getting the best deal possible. It's not January yet and they would be foolish to sign a contract now and lose out because someone comes in for him either forcing a move for more money or causing our board to offer him more to stay.

I don't like it but it's the way the game is now, there's no loyalty it's just about money.

Anyone who expects anything different is out of touch with reality.

I'm sure he doesn't particularly want to move but an extra 500k a year more is worth holding out for, whoever you are.

How many people do you know that would turn down an extra £750,000+ a year purely out of loyalty to their current employer ?

Re: Getting fed up with Winston ....
So much speculation.

Winston has generally been putting the effort in and not bottling challenges, like some would when they're hoping for a move, so until he starts to do that sort of thing, I don't like the idea of him being slagged off.

Wait and see; he's at least earnt the right to the benefit of the doubt until he's gone or does soemthing that truly is out of order.

DukeofDevo 11:22 Wed Dec 10
Re: Getting fed up with Winston ....
It could also be described as greed Russ, maybe he's got his valuation wrong. As long as he's getting enough and let's not forget 50 or 60 a week is a lot of dosh, you've got to be a very important player at a big club to be earning more than that.

I'd be surprised if Ron Vlaar or Shawcross or Ashley Williams all players for teams in our category get as much and certainly not more.

Reid should continue his development with us he's by no means the finished article.
